Mary J. Blige’s ex-husband said that his court battles with the songstress over money have been so stressful, he’s had to go to the hospital as a result.
Martin ‘Kendu’ Isaacs said he’s ‘experienced physical manifestations of stress and emotional distress from this matter, which has caused him to become hospitalized,’ according to court documents published on The Blast.
In the statement to the court – part of Isaacs’ effort to have the court raise Blige’s monthly spousal support from $30,000 to $65,000 – Isaacs said he’d be ‘destitute’ without the ongoing financial flow from his former wife of more than 12 years. He said it’s ‘impossible’ for him to make his rent payments, and as far as work goes, he’s ‘unemployable.’
Isaacs and the 46-year-old entertainer, who is seen in the critically-acclaimed film Mudbound, are slated to return to court in March.
Much of the acrimony in the split between the couple has been linked to Blige’s accusations against Isaacs that he had cheated on her with her one-time protege, the singer Starshell (whose real name is LaNeah Menzies).
The Grammy-winning vocalist vented about the ‘humiliating’ experience she endured amid Isaacs’ alleged infidelity in her 2017 VH1 documentary Strength of a Woman.
‘All these years have come to this, like you didn’t even pick me, you picked somebody else,’ Blige said. ‘It hurt real bad. But … they got beds, we gotta lay in it.’
Months later, she ripped Isaacs as a ‘con artist’ in an interview with Variety in which she claimed he ‘played’ and ‘suckered’ her.
Better times: The couple was snapped in LA in February of 2016, four months before Mary filed for divorce
The Runaway Love singer added, ‘I have to keep smiling and keep my spirits up because this is designed to kill me.’
Starshell has denied Blige’s allegations she was with Isaacs, saying, ‘This is absolutely not true,’ according to the New York Post.
